Brand   New Writing Retreeat on the Isle of Skye

arrow-left-alt Back To Blog

The Perle Hotel Group is introducing a brand new writer’s retreat at Bracken Hide Hotel on the Isle of Skye, running from Monday 17 March to Friday 21 March, 2025. The retreat will be led by writer, poet, and artist Laima Vince and will explore how place, the natural environment, local myths, legends and tales shape writing by creating texture and context. The small group (maximum 15 participants) can immerse themselves in the history and natural wonder of the Isle of Skye, dripping with local legend and ancient folklore.

This retreat is open to published and emerging writers alike, and caters for all levels of experience and ability. Sessions will cover the genres of non-fiction, memoir, fiction, and poetry.

Daily workshops begin after breakfast with exercises designed to focus attention and draw out elements of what constitutes good writing.  Discover how the environment adds character, and how nature serves as either a backdrop or as a focus for stories, poems and essays. After lunch, there is an opportunity to explore, reflect and write, either alone or with other members of the group. Retreaters reconvene an hour before dinner to listen, reflect, support and critique one another’s writing.  Dinner is taken at Bracken Hide’s Am Braigh restaurant, a modern Scottish kitchen showcasing the best produce from Skye’s larder.  Expect plenty of seafood including grilled langoustines, local whisky-cured Skye salmon, Isle of Skye scallops, Loch Eishort mussels and Highland oysters.  After dinner, there will be open-mic readings to share work and practice performance and delivery.

Guests will stay in one of the spacious rooms (called Hides) dotted throughout the picturesque 52-acre Estate, with loch and mountain views, while the workshop convenes inside ‘The Bracken’, the main hotel building, which has an outstanding restaurant, an intimate whisky and cocktail bar, and a Mezzanine Lounge.  Cleanse body and mind in one of the two Estonia sauna pods, and afterwards jump straight into the wild plunge pool to cool off.

Price: £1,250pp (single occupancy of a double room) including 4 nights’ full board accommodation and all tuition.  www.perlehotels.com/brackenhide
